Following its decision to deactivate 11.46 lakh PAN numbers due to multiple or duplicate cards, the government has now started deactivating Aadhaar cards, citing numerous reasons.

Aadhaar has become an important document over the years. There are over 111 crore Aadhaar card users, and the govt has begun deactivating cards due to various reasons. In fact, it has already deactivated 81 lakh cards.

Aadhaar is n’t just a unique identity card, but also to help you avail of government schemes. Recently, it was also made mandatory to link your Aadhaar and PAN card. While government is deactivating Aadhaar cards, it is important to know if you are one of them. Yes, you could be one of these 81 lakh people whose card has been deactivated, but how will you find out?

How to check if your Aadhaar card has been deactivated

Firstly, users will have to visit the UIDAI website https://uidai.gov.in. Then, look for the Aadhaar Services section. Under Aadhaar Services, you will find the 'Verify Aadhaar Number' option.

Once you click on the option, it will take you to a new page wherein you will have to key in your Aadhaar number. You will also find a security code on the screen. Key in the code and click on verify. In case your Aadhaar isn't deactivated, then you will get a message stating it exists along with other details as seen in the image above.
