Google Maps now supports live traffic alerts in India

Drivers in India can now steer clear of traffic jams, thanks to the launch of live traffic alerts on Google Maps. Hundreds of millions of drivers worldwide can benefit with the real time updates about the traffic jams from the comfort of their seat.

Google Maps' traffic alerts are now live in the sub-continent, following its debut launch last May in the US. Drivers can get real- time updates on segments with heavy traffic congestion, enroute to their destination. Based on the alert description, users may choose alternate longer or shorter routes with lesser jams.

Google Maps now shows additional alerts about rough road conditions due to heavy traffic, accidents, or ensuing construction work on the suggested route. This includes a voice alert describing the situation and guiding the driver with re-routing information.

Google's app catalog is now better equipped to handle the country's fast growing mobile user-base. The company has also addressed several critical user concerns including offline navigation for Google Maps, offline YouTube, and free WiFi  access in public transport hubs like rail stations.
