Elon Musk – does the name ring a bell? No? PayPal? Now surely it does. Yes, Musk, who was the co-founder of PayPal, has set out on a journey to shape the world through his innovations. From space travel to Hyperloop, the founder of Tesla Motors, SolarCity and SpaceX, is planning it all.

The billionaire investor featured in the World’s Most Powerful People’s list of Forbes in 2016 and he was in the 21st place. He is currently worth $ 12.7 billion.

Off late, the former University of Pennsylvania graduate has been trying to redefine transportation on earth and in space.

You would be astonished to know that the Bengaluru to Chennai Hyperloop was his brainchild. But later he made it an open source. Through Tesla Motors he is trying to bring in driver-less cars in the market and these vehicles will run on electric.

At SpaceX he is also working on building satellites and sending human beings to other planets.

However, last year the meteoric rise of the US business magnet took a hit when a SpaceX rocket caught fire during fuelling. In the same year, a Tesla Vehicle on autopilot crashed into a tractor trailer and during this horrific incident, the Tesla driver was also killed.

Ever since Apple Inc’s Steve Jobs passed away, there has been only one golden boy of Silicon Valley and that is undoubtedly Musk. The IT honcho made his fortune after selling PayPal for $1.5 billion.

The South African-born businessman brought his vision of human colonisation of the planet Mars in front of the world at the International Astronautical Congress in Guadalajara in Mexico last year. Post that speech, Musk has been able to recover from the major failures he and his companies faced earlier in 2016.

Musk has even set a target of 2024 for the first interplanetary flight!
