24-year-old J Niveditha from Chennai has sustained serious injuries after jumping off her seventh floor flat. She is said to have broken her back, but out of danger, according to a report by The Times of India.
The police have begun probing and looking for a possible connection between the attempted suicide and the deadly Blue Whale game. The game is known to pose 50 deadly challenges and the final one asks users to harm themselves.
Meanwhile, the report also adds that the neighbours said the girl looked depressed for the past few days and raised the possibility of playing the game. Her parents said they knew nothing about their daughter playing the game. Other possible reasons for the suicide are also being investigated.Â
India is gripped by the Blue Whale Challenge as teen suicides surfaced in Mumbai, West Bengal and Kerala linked to the deadly game. And, it is worrisome.Â
The Ministry of Electronics and IT had asked social sites, Google, Yahoo and others to ban the game. However, even after the ban, it is said to be lurking in other forms and comes disguised as A Silent House, A Sea of Whales and Wake Me Up at 4:20 AM, among others possibly. That calls for better measures to handle this online menace. Here's how schools and parents can help.Â
Meanwhile, a new game dubbed Pink Whale has also emerged.Â
