After failure of Fire, Amazon working on 'Ice' smartphones: Report

Looks like Amazon is ready to jump into the smartphone market and this time with Ice series of smartphones, citing people familiar with the matter, a report by Gadgets360 states.

The report adds that unlike the Fire range that was aimed at western markets, the Ice portfolio will be aimed at emerging markets. When it comes to emerging markets, India is among the biggest phone markets and it is quite possible that it could make it to the list of countries Amazon plans to target. Infact, the report adds that we could see a device launch here before the year end.

These smartphone are said to run Android and come with support for Google services such as Gmail, Google Play Store and so on. If you remember, Amazon had pushed its own services, giving them priority over Google services for its devices in the past.

The report adds that the devices are called 'Ice' internally and could come with a different name when launched. And, one of these devices could make it to the Indian market, further adds the report.

Talking about the specs, the report suggests that the devices could come with a display size ranging between 5.2-inch to 5.5-inch along with 13Mp camera and 2GB RAM, 16GB storage and fingerprint scanner. However, no Alexa integration was seen. Besides, the company is also working at bring its Alexa speaker to the country.
