Skype Lite for Android, developed by the Hyderabad research, has been crafted especially for Indian users. The lite version is aimed at the Android dominated Indian users, majority of which use low-end devices with poor Internet connection. A lite version utilises less resources and is designed to run even on slower 2G connections.

Though there has been a 4G drive, as users we know how unstable these connections could be, pushing us on 3G as we move out of a city's heart. The app comes in a 13MB file size and Android users can download it from the Google Play Store.

Though the app will bring in all features seen in Skype, it will come with the ability to lower the call quality using compression as the connection degrades. Besides, the app will compress other content shared too. Lite app will let you how much data you've consumed on Wi-Fi and mobile networks.

Other big news is - Aadhaar for Skype. Skype users can now send verification requests to people they are talking to. An OTP is sent to the phone number linked to Aadhaar. Microsoft has been working on pilot projects on how to use Aadhaar for Skype. This seems to be the first step.
