Women a lot safer in Tamil Nadu?

  • NCW declares that women are much more safer in Tamil Nadu than in other states in the country.
  • Out of the 40 registered case against women's assault, close to 20 were resolved within a short span of time.

Women a lot safer in Tamil Nadu

In a recent report by the National Commission for Women, it has been said that registered cases of violence against women have been decreasing in Tamil Nadu as compared to the other states.

Addressing the media at Coimbatore collectorate, NCW member Rekha Sharma said, " NCW has been creating awareness among women about their rights in society in urban and rural areas. Due to the continuous awareness activities, many women come forward and file their complaints with the police and the Commission. Though the number of cases of violence against  women increased in Delhi, Bihar, UP Haryana, the number of such cases are decreasing in Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Maharashtra. The data available with the NCW reveals that such cases are also increasing at the national level.”

She further added, "totally, 40 violence against women cases were registered in the Coimbatore. During the review meet with the police, nearly 90 per cent of the cases were solved. Remaining cases will be solved within two weeks. We have not received any complaint yet regarding the latest ‘honor killing’ from TN, while the number of such cases is increasing in Haryana."
