With two factions of the splintered AIADMK busy with merger talks, TTV Dhinakaran is trying to prove his importance in bringing AIADMK together.

After meeting AIADMK (Amma) general secretary VK Sasikala at Parappana Agrahara prison in Bengaluru on Wednesday, August 2, party deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran said he has the support of 122 legislators.

The Times of India quoted Dhinakaran saying, “I will visit the party headquarters at Royapettah in Chennai soon. None has the authority to prevent me from visiting the office."

Dhinakaran had hinted at returning to his party role after August 4, the deadline he had set for the factions to sort out their differences and merge into one cohesive party again.

However, chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami convened a meeting with ministers and office bearers at the party headquarters on Tuesday, August 1, and asserted his role in the party.

After the hour-long meeting, finance minister D Jayakumar said the party and government were being run efficiently by Palaniswami and ruled out Dhinakaran’s claim of wielding influence.

Dhinakaran has also said that he will file a defamation case against former Karnataka DIG, prisons, D Roopa for allegedly levelling baseless charges of special privileges extended to Sasikala in jail.
