Tamil Nadu State Cooperation Minister Sellur K Raju on Sunday, July 25, said that actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan could join AIADMK if they want to serve the people of Tamil Nadu.

The AIADMK has come down heavily on Kamal Haasan for his tweets and statements over how corrupt the government is.

Kamal also asked his fans to launch online complaints to the ministers concerned. Rajini said the system has become rotten and it should be changed.

The Hindu quoted the minister saying, “People would not accept actors. If they join movements like ours and work, there would not be any problem. If they accept our party principles and join our party that is different.”

Raju said it was not that actors should float parties. “It is not that they should serve people by starting a party. But the AIADMK is the only party that is struggling for the people in Tamil Nadu.”

On Saturday, July 22, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami had dared Kamal Haasan to join politics and said he would then give him a befitting reply. Municipal Administration Minister S.P. Velumani had earlier threatened to check if the actor had paid taxes for his films and had dared Kamal to prove the corruption charges levelled against AIADMK.

AIADMK’s mouthpiece Namadhu Dr MGR had earlier warned Kamal against the support he has been receiving from opposition parties, saying that when the moment comes, the opposition will ‘leave Kamal Haasan in lurch’.

Kamal Haasan had on Wednesday, July 19, hinted at joining politics through his tweets.

Superstar Rajinikanth had also hinted at entering politics in May. He had told his supporter to ‘be ready when it is time for war’.
