Tamil Nadu Police personnel demand the abolition of orderly system threaten protest

A protest on banning the ‘Orderly’ system was announced by the police personnel in Chennai. Through this system constables are made to do menial jobs for the higher officials. It has created shock waves among officials of higher ranking.

In order to get public’s attention, many police men were spreading awareness on this, through whatsapp and other social media platforms. Following which, they have planned to stage a protest along with their family members, on July 6.

Requests:

1) Unlike other government staff, the police men work round the clock. Hence the fixation of pay scale should vary considering the nature of work.

2) Work timings must be limited to 8 hours.

3) Unlike other government staff, policemen cannot avail weekend holidays. This system should be changed as one cannot spend time with their family members. Police men should be given leave on weekends on a rotational leave cycle method.

4) Due to work stress, many police men are committing suicide. A serious action should be taken to prevent this.

5) Police department lacks man power but constables are asked to do menial jobs at higher officials’ houses. This ‘Orderly’ system should be banned.

6) The requests made related to the 7th pay scale commission should be taken into consideration for immediate action.

The police men said that a protest will be staged insisting on these requests.
