With the rise in the number of adultery cases, there is also a rise in the number of assaults and deaths related to them.

A 59-year-old man from Vellore chopped off his wife’s arm on suspicions that she was having an affair.
The incident occurred in the Pitchanur area in Gudiyattam town police station limit on Monday, July 31.
The victim, 45-year-old Devi, was having an extra-marital affair, reports the Times of India. When her husband, Pitchandi learned of this, he told her to stop the relationship.
Devi, however, continued cheating on her husband. This angered Pitchandi further. He started an argument with her over the issue. In the heat of the moment, he grabbed a sickle and chopped off her right arm. Devi's limb was severed from her forearm.
Neighbours and relatives heard her cries and immediately rushed her to the Government Hospital in Gudiyattam. The doctors provided first aid to arrest the bleeding and referred her to a private hospital in Chennai.
"Devi had an illegal affair three years ago. Though her husband warned her on several occasions against her affair, she continued the relationship. Angered over this, he severed her hand," said Gudiyattam Town station inspector Irudhayaraj to the Times of India.
"We have sent the severed parts of the arm in an ice box along with the victim," he added further.
The couple had been married for over 20 years. They have two sons and one daughter. The police have registered a case on charges of attempt to murder and arrested Pitchandi.
