The city police of Chennai has arrested a special SI who was found in possession of 22 kg marijuana. The contraband was found at his official resident in police quarters located at Royapuram. Attached to the law and order wing of Fort Police station, Sundaravadivel was arrested by a team sent by deputy commissioner of Flower Bazaar. A local informer had tipped off the police about the interception of 22 kg ganja by him. However, the police headquarters did not have any information about it.

A team of investigators searched his house located on West Madha Church street. It is also being suspected that the SI was working closely with the ganja peddlar in the Annai Sathya Nagar. It is alleged that the SI intercepted a ganja peddlar when he was on night duty on Wednesday night and took away the contrabrand to his quarters for safekeeping.

Things, however, were not hidden for long as many of his colleagues came to know about it through their informers. It was also found that he had neither informed his hire-ups nor registered the seizure with the police station. The police is now trying to find out if he was indulged in these activities regularly. After an extensive enquiry, it was decided to arrest him for illegal possession of ganja. The women who used to procure contrabrand from him were also arrested. Senior police officials, speaking to the Deccan Chronicle, said, "The arrested policeman will be placed under suspension soon."
