Outgoing Tamil Nadu Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao thanked the people of the state for their love, affection, and the warmth and courtesy extended to him during his tenure.

Rao, Governor of Maharashtra and holding additional charge of Tamil Nadu since the retirement of K Rosaiah in August 2016, thanked Chief Minister K Palaniswami and his now Deputy and predecessor O Panneerselvam.

In a Raj Bhavan statement, he said he had "the privilege and honour to hold additional charge" of the state. "I sincerely thank the people of Tamil Nadu for their love and affection, and the warmth and courtesy they extended to me during my tenure as Governor, " he said.

The centre has appointed Banwarilal Purohit as the Governor of Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu was a front ranking state making significant strides in Information Technology, automobile industry, construction industry, and health care, Rao said.

"It is a place where culture and tradition have a seamless blend with modernity and is a symbol of peace and harmony. In the aftermath of demise of J Jayalalithaa, the then Chief Minister, and during the protest for the cause of Jallikattu, the people of Tamil Nadu had maintained peace and tranquility with great discipline," he said.

It was God's grace and the hard work of people of Tamil Nadu that made the state to return to normalcy after "facing the testing times" caused by cyclone Vardha last December, he said.

"The greatest assets of Tamil Nadu are its people, their simplicity, gentleness, hard work, friendly nature and discipline," he said.

As Chancellor of Universities, he had streamlined the process of appointment of Vice Chancellors by fixing a time frame for completion of process and prescribing qualification for the posts of VCs and Search Committee Members, among others, Rao said.

While Raj Bhavan gates were opened for the public to experience it's "grandeur and splendour," a 400 kwp solar plant was also installed there to promote green energy (during his tenure), he added.

"I thank the present and past Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers, all Political Party Leaders, Vice Chancellors, educationists, academicians, Members of Chambers of Commerce & Industry, various voluntary and social service organizations, Officials, Police Personnel and friends from Media."

He wished the people of Tamil Nadu happiness, peace, progress and prosperity.
