Online gifts over mixer grinder and cookers TN voters get upgraded

On April 4, former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam’s AIADMK (Puratchi Thalaivi Amma) faction accused the AIADMK (Amma) of luring RK Nagar voters with online gifts purchased from popular e-retailers. In fact, till April 5 the Election Commission has already received 550 complaints related to various malpractices ahead of the RK Nagar bypoll, according to a Livemint report.

According to another report, the legal team of AIADMK (PTA) detected the malpractices regarding sending the online gifts on April 3 and that the party fears that voters are being bribed in the constituency, the News Minute quoted former MLA, Manoj Pandian as saying.

Apart from filing a complaint with the Election Commission, the OPS fraction has also submitted evidence of alleged bribing. Pandian also accused AIADMK (Amma)’s candidate, TTV Dhinakaran, of spending ₹80 crore in the RK Nagar bypoll till now. Voting to RK Nagar bypoll has been scheduled on April 12.

Interestingly, this is not the first time when such allegations have been made against any party in Tamil Nadu politics. It is a common practice to use cash or household items to woo voters across the state.
