O Panneerselvam rules out merger talks cites trust issues with rival faction

O Panneerselvam, ex-CM of Tamil Nadu and the head of the AIADMK-PT Amma faction has ruled out merger with the rival faction, saying that it does not trust it and that it has not kept its promise. As part of May Day celebrations, he addressed a meeting at the Washermanpet and said, "They said they would sideline T T V Dhinakaran family from the party. But what did they do? The affidavits obtained from party functionaries had names of V K Sasikala and Dhinakaran.”

He further said that Edappadi K Palaniswami was mentioned in the affidavit, which is against the party's interests. He also said that Palaniswami was chosen by Sasikala and Dinakaran. Hence, he said, "So, how can we trust them. We are not ready to believe their words."

He accused the rival camp of hypocrisy and said that they were just enacting a "drama" so that they do not have to fulfill the promises they had made. Panneerselvam, meanwhile, has decided to take up an all-state tour to get hold of the party mood on the merger issue. He will kick off the process in Kancheepuram on May 5 and subsequently visit the other districts.
