According to reports, Greater Chennai Corporation has banned entry of couples and students in the popular public park named Mayor Sundar Rao park in Egmore. Notices have been put on the walls of the park that specifically mention that ‘students and couples are not allowed inside’.

The security and contract staff of this 10-year-old park stated that it has been done for discouraging students from bunking their classes and passing their time in the park and also to prevent ‘indecent’ behaviour by couples, the New Indian Express reported.

But, when the posters of the ban went viral and the Chennai Corporation denied putting up these notices. They Corporation also alleged that locals misused their logo to put up the posters.

Residents and walkers who visit the park were irked by supposed inconvenienced caused by the lovers and students and therefore, they put up the notice without the corporation’s knowledge, the daily quoted a senior corporation official as saying. It is still unclear as to who put up these notices.
