The working President of DMK, M.K Stalin, said on Thursday that he is not ready to invite the BJP to the diamond Jubilee function of party president M. Karunanidhi on June 3, which is also his 94th birthday. Stalin said that the main reason behind not inviting BJP leaders is because they had vowed to wipe out the Dravidian movement. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, he said, "I am not ready to create an embarrassing situation for the BJP leaders by seating them in the diamond jubilee function."

The leaders who are likely to attend the function include Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and other non-BJP leaders. Showing his disappointment at the Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, Stalin said that there was no use approaching him for registering complaints against erring ministers.

Charging the AIADMK of being indifferent to farmers' plight in Tamil Nadu, he said that his party is doing everything possible to support the cause of the farmers. He also mentioned his participation in the desilting works of Muthumariamman temple pond in his Kolathur constituency. He further said that his party is carrying out de-silting of water bodies throughout the state so that more people get access to clean drinking water.

Meanwhile, BJP ministers too have reacted to Stalin's comments, saying that even if they were invited to the function, they wouldn't have attended it. Union Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan said, "greeting Kalaignar (Mr. Karunanidhi) is different. But even if the BJP is invited for the birthday function, we will not attend it.”
