Jayalalithas niece stakes claim on Poes garden

Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister late Jayalalitha’s niece Deepa Jayakumar has staked claim to Poes Garden, Jayalalitha’s residence, for herself and her brother Deepak.

Deepa has also questioned the intention of AIADMK members to convert the residence into a memorial.

As per a report by The Hindu, Ms Deepa said the plan to turn the house into a memorial was done by those who are trying to take revenge on the duo who are Jayalalithaa’s blood relatives.

As per the final affidavit filed by Jaya to the Election Commission, her total assets cost Rs 120 crore. The Poes Garden is worth approximately Rs 44 crore and was occupied by Jaya’s aide Sasikala Natarajan before her arrest.

Deepa is the leader of the MGR Amma Deepa Peravai. In a recent controversy, Deepa’s husband Madhavan quit her party to form his own, saying bad elements have influenced and interfered in the foundation of her party.

Deepa said that only she and her brother Deepak are the legal heirs of the house. Calling the current Tamil Nadu government as the ‘benami’ government of Sasikala, she said she would take legal action if any changes are made to the house without getting proper permissions from her and her brother.
