I have got no invitation from any political party, says actor Urvashi
- Actress Urvashi says Music and humour should come naturally.
- She recalls “Bhagyaraj treated me like how a teacher would treat a reluctant student”.
- Urvashi is one among the few actors known for realistic acting. The multi-faceted actress has acted in more than 700 films in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi and Telugu.
FollowUrvashi is cast in a new Tamil Movie ‘Koothan’. She is doing the role of a ‘Junior Artist’. On the shooting site, Urvashi has shared her screen experiences.
About the film?
“This film talks about the lives of the supporting actors. There is a huge gap between junior artists and the lead actors. This movie is centered on them. Most of the famous actors and actresses have often made their entry as a junior artist. In this film I am acting as a junior actress.
Some junior artists live with the hope that they would see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Whereas, some junior artists would choose to accept life as it is. They are satisfied with the given opportunities irrespective of the role they get. I am representing the latter. Venky is directing this movie.”
What did cinema teach you?
“You can never graduate in cinema. You learn something every single day. There is advancement in every area of film making. If we do not upgrade ourselves accordingly we would lag behind.”
Can you tell us about the movie Mundhanai Mudichu that has changed your life?
“My sister Ranjini was the one who was opted first for the lead role. It was the time when she had just made her successful entry in Malayalam film industry. So when Bhagyaraj asked for two months call sheet, she could not accept the offer. Since the offer came during my school vacation I did not have a problem in accepting it. It remains as a beautiful dream till date. I blindly followed his instructions in acting. I am sure I can never do the same performance again in my life.”

“He treated me like how a teacher would treat a reluctant student. I was little naughty and adamant. So he would make me perform well by chiding and pampering”
How would you value yourself as an actress?
“You won’t believe, right on the eve of the last day shoot, I made my trip to Ooty for my second movie. That was too much for me. I thought that I would go back to my school after the Mundhanai Mudichu shoot. The opportunities continued to knock at my door. I was reluctant until 50 to 60 movies. By then I have acted in few Malayalam movies as well. It was then I realised that not everyone get the opportunity to become an actor. I promised myself that I would not, be little this opportunity. I also decided to be very dedicative towards my work.”
About your Sense of Humour?
“No….No.. I was a serious person. I easily get angered but this cinema has changed me a lot. My characters in movies have influenced me. Music and comic sense should come by birth.”
About political entry:
“I feel fortunate that I was not invited by any political party. Please don’t make them invite me. I am enjoying my proper diet and sound sleep. I don’t have much interest in politics.”
