In a shocking incident, a high school student and his friend beat a fellow classmate to death over payment of money for a mobile.

According to Latheri police, 13-year-old P Santhosh, a Class VIII student of the Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Poigai, reportedly went out with two of his friends, a classmate and another student from Class IX student, after their classes got over.

New Indian Express reported that the boys went to an isolated place near Sozhambur lake on Kothamangalam Road at Labbakrishnapuram around 5.30pm where an argument ensued.

Santosh had allegedly given his Rs 6,000 worth smartphone to one of his friends in exchange for money a few days back. However, this friend failed to pay the amount.

Angry over this, Santosh confronted his friend to pay the money or return the phone.

The friend, along with a Class IX student, took Santhosh to an isolated place and started an argument. The argument turned violent and the two boys allegedly brutally beat Santhosh leading to his death.

Santhosh’s father Parthiban who was searching frantically for his son met the school headmaster and inquired about his Santhosh on Thursday, December 21. Upon enquiring with a few students, he found out that Santhosh had left school with two of his friends on the previous evening.

Upon questioning, one of the boys who was involved in the incident revealed that they had beaten Santhosh at an isolated place. Soon, the parents and villagers launched a search and found the boy’s corpse near Sozhambur lake. The boy was in uniforms with his school bag around the shoulder. There were two deep cuts on the back of his head. The body was sent for autopsy, reported the New Indian Express.

The police have detained one of the accused and are on a lookout for the other.
