German tourist dragged, raped at Mamallapuram beach

A German female tourist was allegedly sexually assaulted at the Mamallapuram beach about 50 km away from Chennai on April 2. In her complaint to the police, the victim alleged that she was forcibly taken away and sexually assaulted by some men, a district police official told PTI.

 

The incident took place when the tourist was taking a stroll alone on Sunday morning along the sea shore. The victim went a bit too far while taking the stroll and then she dozed off, the Times of India quoted police as stating. When she woke, she found herself being dragged by the assailants and according to the same report, the Officers investigating this case suspect that one of the attackers raped the tourist. 

 

The victim who arrived with a group somehow managed to escape and ran back to her group, the group then contacted the German embassy in New Delhi. The embassy then reached out to the local police who then took cognizance of the matter. 

 

The woman was taken to a hospital for medical examination, and the probe is on, a district police official said. Several persons are being questioned, and some of them have been detained, he added.

 

According to a Hindu report, the DSP of Mamallapuram visited the crime scene on the night of Sunday, and special teams have been formed to investigate the case, the daily quoted police as confirming.
