Drunken trio stoned cab driver to death in Chennai

On the night of April 23, three drunken men stone a cabbie to death after a brawl in Thoraipakkam, Chennai. It was an incident of road rage that led to the death of 25-year-old Kumar, a resident of Kallukuttai near Perungudi. 

On the night of the incident, Kumar was reportedly driving back to his home when three drunken men walked out on the road near Mullai Street and blocked his way. Though Kumar honked but Manikandan, 28, Marimuthu, 27 and Gopi, 29 who also reside in the same locality refused to move, reported the Times of India. 

Then an angry Kumar yelled at the trio who in return started abusing him. Kumar then got down from his car and a heated argument took place between him and the drunken men. Soon after, one of the three men picked up a stone and attacked Kumar. The other two men also attacked Kumar and caused injuries before leaving for their respective homes. 

It was the residents of the locality who upon hearing the quarrel informed police who rushed to the spot. The police took Kumar to a government hospital that referred Kumar to Stanley Medical College Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival by the doctors. 

Police have recovered a stone with blood-stains near Kumar’s body and have sent it for forensic test. The police have registered a murder case on the basis of the complaint filed by the mother of the deceased. The accused three men have been traced and arrested.
