It is still believed that the beauty of a woman is often measured by her hair, but then Manithi Charitable Trust has a different say in this matter.

An awareness campaign on why a woman should shave heads was held at Kandanchavadi, Chennai.
As a part of this campaign, many women shaved their heads.
It was told in the campaign that instead of spending more time on grooming the hair, one could invest their valuable time more productively, and women should not be limited only to the subject of beauty.
Sudha, one of the organisers, said to the reporters, “We are against the chauvinistic mentality that says that only men are entitled to give opinions, whereas, women are made to believe that their beauty is limited to their eye makeup and long, dark hair. It is nothing but a mere act of slavery. We are also against the cosmetic corporate companies which will soon be set up here for trade.”
“The criteria for measuring someone’s beauty should be same for men and women. If the criteria have to be ever set, then it should be common, natural, impartial and justified. We have planned to donate the hair for the treatment of cancer patients.” She further added.
When asked how this act would bring a change, she said, “We don’t call this as a revolution but just an initiation for the next big move.”
