WWE: Edge makes surprise return to Smackdown, attacks Universal Champion Roman Reigns
Edge is a Hall of Famer in World Wrestling Entertainment. He last wrestled during Wrestlemania 37 this year, where he lost to Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan for the Universal Championship. His return on Smackdown marks the continuation of his rivalry with Reigns.
World Wrestling Entertainment pulled off another surprise when Hall of Famer and former world champion, Edge, returned to Smackdown on Friday night. His return was marked by continuing his current rivalry with the reigning Universal Champion, Roman Reigns.
Reigns was in the ring to address something to the WWE Universe during the show's main segment. However, Edge's music hit the Thunderdome quickly, as the Rated-R Superstar walked out, stared at Reigns, and immediately got into the ring to attack the champ.
Although Reigns tried to counter Edge's assault by hitting him with a Superman Punch, Edge countered back with a Spear. During this time, Reigns' cousin, Jimmy Uso, got into the ring and attacked Edge with a chair, besides trying to throw him into the steel steps, only to be countered by Edge again, while the latter Speared him through the barricade.
As Edge looked to get back to Reigns, the latter had already walked up to the entrance ramp. Nevertheless, Edge made it perfectly clear that his rivalry with Reigns is far from over and is adamant about taking the Universal Championship away from him. Reigns has terrorised most of the roster since becoming the champ, and it would be interesting to see if he clashes with Edge at the upcoming pay-per-view, Money in the Bank, on July 18.
It was the first time Edge made his appearance since Wrestlemania 37 this year, where he was in the main event in a triple-threat match for the Universal Championship against Reigns and Daniel Bryan, which Reigns retained. Edge, who won the Royal Rumble this year, had made it clear that he will become the world champion again, as he never lost the championship when he won it the last time. Ten years ago, he had to surrender the title as a devastating neck injury required him to undergo a triple-fusion surgery and forced him to retire.
