Kiren Rijiju asserts India would continue its journey towards becoming great sports nation

The journey of Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju has come to an end, as he has been promoted as the Minister of Law and Justice. Having served as the Sports Minister for two years, he believes that there would be no stopping India's journey as a great sports nation.

After two years of excellent service to the nation as the Union Sports Minister, Kiren Rijiju has left the helm. It would be headed by the former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Anurag Thakur.

Rijiju will now head the Ministry of Law and Justice. As he runs out of the sports verticle, he has asserted that there would be no stopping India despite his departure, while the nation's journey and rise as a top sporting nation are sure to continue.

"We tried everything to make India a great sporting nation. The journey will continue; it is a change of responsibilities. I am shifting to the Law and Justice Ministry, but the efforts which are going on in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports will continue and my best wishes to the team," he said during a virtual press conference, reports PTI.

"The time which I had in the sports and youth affairs ministry has been extremely favourable as well as full of events and activities. From young to senior athletes, I have met most of them and interacted with them. The journey of making India a great sporting nation will continue and will be fulfilled," he added.

Rijiju also gave credit to his team, besides asserting that the ministry under Prime Minister Narendra Modi would do everything to fulfil the ambitions of the country's sportspersons. "I just met the sports ministry officials. Secretary Youth Affairs, Secretary Sports, Director General SAI and the entire team. We had a great team; we had a wonderful journey. We did everything to fulfil the vision of Hon'ble Prime Minister and the aspirations of the people," he concluded.
