The selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), headed by MSK Prasad, announced a 15-member ODI squad a couple of days ago. It is indeed a seriously strong squad which will travel to England and Wales, where they will try and defend their ICC Champions Trophy title.

But the squad did not have the name of Rishabh Pant in it. Despite being in incredible form in the domestic season as well as in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), the national team selectors did not hand the Delhi boy an opportunity to showcase his talent in England.

Pant scored a whopping 972 runs in just eight Ranji Trophy matches at a freakish average of 81 in the last season. He scored three centuries and it also includes a triple century as well.

The attacking batsman has lit up the IPL 2017 with his ruthless and relentless hitting. The southpaw is also one of the highest run-getters for Delhi Daredevils in this 10th edition of the IPL. Pant has notched up 281 runs in 11 matches with an astounding strike rate of 172.

This opportunity could have been a great one for Pant as he could have brushed his shoulders with the best of the best in world cricket and would have shared the dressing room with senior Indian cricketers. In spite of having such numbers to his name, Pant was not picked in the 15-member squad. However, the national team selectors have kept him on a standby list for the ICC Champions Trophy.
