In yet another act of moral policing, a Sub Inspector (SI) was attacked by an angry mob when he was returning from a house in Muvattupuzha on Thursday night. The mob also attacked a lady in the house.

The police officer was wearing civil dress and reached the house in his private vehicle. The men from the locality stopped the officer and questioned his 'regular visits' to the house and roughed him up. They also informed the police.
Ironically, though the incident happened hardly two kilometres away from the nearest police station, the police arrived a couple of hours later. The locals refused to hand over the cop and demanded that the officer should undergo a test to ascertain whether he had consumed alcohol. The cop was later admitted to Kolencherry Medical College hospital with injuries on the face.
The officer explained that he went to the place to check reports of drug peddling in the area and had cordial relations with the members of the house in connection with a case.
Police have registered two different cases against some locals for manhandling the police officer and members of the house. Kochi Range IG S Sreejith suspended the Sub Inspector from service after the incident.
