In yet another shocking instance of brutal moral policing in Kerala, a middle-aged man was stripped and beaten up by a group of people at Kodungallur in Thrissur. The gang also published the visuals of the torture on social media platforms.

The incident took place at Menon Bazar in Azheekode near Kodungallur at 10 pm on Saturday. A gang of nine men detained Salam, 47, stripped and tied him to an electric post before beating him up. The gang subjected him to hours of strenuous trial for his 'suspicious presence' near a house in the locality and spread the visuals of the torture through social media.

The police reached the spot after a while and took the man to a hospital. Salam lost three teeth and sustained grave injuries in the attack. The victim told the police that nine persons were in the gang that attacked him. The police have registered a case and started investigation.

This is the latest incident in a series of moral policing cases in which local people took the law into their hand under cover of safeguarding morality. Last month, a woman journalist and her brother were manhandled and threatened by a gang near a picnic spot at Kakkayam in Kozhikode.
