Karnataka govt office forced to hand over computers desks to farmer

Farmer Ramaswamy and his advocate walked into Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) and took away the computers and furniture of the KRS Road office of the board. The farmer did this to honour the court order against this department's delay in releasing compensation.

In 2007, the department acquired 15.33 acres of Ramaswamy's land to expand the Mysuru airport. As a result of it, the farmer approached the court demanding more compensation from the department. The court gave the decision in his favour and directed the KIADB to pay ₹32,13,27,391 along with 15% interest of Rs 1,32,052 every day.

The department failed to pay the sum and the farmer again filed a case and demanded further compensation leading to a total of ₹37,30,91,155. Again, the department failed to pay the amount and Ramaswamy again went to court.

This time the Additional Senior Civil Judge ordered to attached the department's office and its property to recover the compensation. Following this, the farmer and his advocate decided to take possession of the office property of KIADB.

Though this led to an embarrassing situation for the department and left its employees confused but was a right move by the court. On multiple occasion, the department has failed to compensate the farmers who have lost their land for development projects.

Also, kudos to the farmer Ramaswamy who kept his fight alive and for approaching the court again and again to ensure justice for himself.
