The Republic day function was hosted in the High Court premises. On his speech, Shivaramu, Chairman of Advocates Association, started blaming Modi for demonetisation.

Four judges of Karnataka High Court including CJ SK Mukherjee left the Republic Day function midway when Shivaramu, Chairman of Advocates Association, started blaming Modi for demonetisation. The members of the audience also shouted slogans against Shivaramu saying that this is not a political function.

Bengaluru Advocates Association had organised Republic Day function in the High Court premises on January 26 at 10.15 a.m. for which Justice Ananda Bhaira Reddy and Justice B Manohara were invited as chief guests.

Justice SK Mukherjee, Justice S Abdul Nazeer, Justice BS Patil, Justice Sreenivasa Gowda, Senior Counsel YR Sadashiva Reddy, Senior Counsel Jayakumar S Patil were also present in the audience gallery.

HC Shivaramu, Chairman of Bengaluru Advocates Association, hoisted the flag and started criticising the demonetisation announced by PM Modi. In his written speech he said that common man is facing severe problems and even former PM Manmohan Singh also opposed the act of demonetisation.

As his speech continued the advocates who were present in the gathering started objecting the speech and said that the flag hoisting program is not a political stage or and Republic Day is not a political function. Rajanna, another advocate and president of Legal Unit of BJP also raised his voice. Gradually, the whole crowd started shouting slogans against Shivaramu.

This unexpected turn of events bewildered the judges who were present there. Justice Patil and Justice Sadashiva Reddy got up and vacated the place. Soon after, CJ SK Mukherjee and other senior judges also left the function. Thus the program ended within 20 minutes.

Afterwards, speaking to the media, Shivaramu defended his speech and said that he did not say anything derogatory about the Prime Minister. He also said that some members of Advocates’ Association are deliberately creating nuisance just to disgrace his image and reputation as the election is approaching.
