At a time when people do not mind spending big bucks on wedding return gifts, a newly-wed couple from Ernakulam in Kerala distributed vegetable seed packets to guests at their wedding reception party.

Jayant, who works as a seaman, was inspired by his father Dr. Praveen's love for farming.  He decided to surprise the guests with tiny seed packets clipped with the thank-you notes.

Praveen, a Homeo doctor based in Ernakulam has always kept farming close to his heart. The novel idea to distribute seeds didn't occur to him on a fine morning. He used to present seeds to patients and friends who paid him a visit.

Costly gifts may lose its charm over a period of time. But the seeds are going to reward people in the long run, if they are taken care of in a proper manner, Praveen says.

Each packet had seeds of ladies finger, pumpkin, ridge gourd and cucumber. At least 100 guests, out of the 1,000 people that attended the wedding reception, would be prompted to sow the seeds and grow vegetables, Praveen believes.
