Dalit PhD scholar injured in SFI attack in Kerala

Dalit PhD scholar injured in SFI attack in Kerala

At a time when student organisations in Kerala are making claims of championing student's rights, Students Federation of India (SFI), the student's wing of Communist Party of India - Marxist seems to be unaware of this. SFI activists of Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) has allegedly manhandled a Dalit research scholar on the university campus at Kottayam for organising a meeting on transgender rights. 
 

The incident of high-handed on college campus came to light after Vivek Kumaran, an MPhil scholar registered a complaint with police. The scholar of School of Gandhian Thoughts was allegedly brutally manhandled by SFI activists. 
 

Kumaran, a native of Kalady, suffered grievous injuries and is undergoing treatment at Kottayam Medical College Hospital. He is an activist of Ambedkar Students Movement and had organised a meeting on transgender rights. This provoked SFI workers, who barged into the hostel room of the scholar and assaulted him brutally. He has also complained that the activists also hurled casteist abuses and threatened him with death.  During the attack, Kumaran fell unconscious, and his hostel mates rushed him to the hospital. 
 

Police registered a case based on his complaint and booked SFI unit secretary Arun, Sachu Sadanandan, Shyamlal and Hemand. 
 

Meanwhile, SFI activists filed another complaint that they were manhandled on campus premises.
