BJP to pass resolution against 'CPM violence' in Kerala

BJP National Executive CPM violence

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) continue to lock horns in Kerala over the incidents of post-poll violence with the saffron party taking  the issue to the national level. The BJP National Executive at Allahabad will pass a resolution against what it calls the CPM-brand of violence that target its workers in Kerala.

The BJP is highlighting the attacks on the houses of its workers at Pinarayi, the home village of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Last week party MP Meenakshi Lekhi addressed a get-together of the families allegedly victimised by the CPM in the village.

National Women's Commission Chairperson Lalitha Kumaramangalam will conduct a sitting at Pinarayi on Monday to listen to the grievances of the women whose houses were destroyed in an alleged CPM attack. The BJP also plans to hold a sit-in protest of the 'victims' of CPM violence in Thiruvananthapuram on 16 June. National leaders including Union ministers will attend the protest.

The BJP stepped up its attack on the CPM and the Left Democratic Front government in Kerala led by Pinarayi Vijayan just after it assumed power. The resolution of the BJP national executive is another indication that the party was not in a mood to let the CPM enjoy happy hours in power. By winning a seat in Kerala for the first time and increasing its vote share tremendously, the BJP now plans to project it as the main opposition in the state and it feels that a campaign against the alleged violence of the Communist party provides the right ammo.

Meanwhile, the CPM also is in no mood to allow a foothold for the BJP. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan lashed out at the BJP and the RSS on Sunday and said that the saffron brigade was trying to create unrest in the country. "The RSS is planning a country with a single religion, which is a dangerous trend," he said at a public address. "The BJP and the RSS unleash violence against the CPM workers and blame the CPM for violence," Vijayan added.
