BBMP demolitions: Officials confused over Darshan's home
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which has already demolished hundreds of homes because they were constructed on stormwater drains, seems quite hesitant to do the same with the homes of influential people - like Sandalwood actor Darshan.
On Monday, the Bengaluru Mayor had announced that the actor’s house in Rajarajeshwari Nagar and SS Hospitals - owned by leader Shamanur Shivashankarappa - have been constructed on the stormwater drains.
However, the BBMP then decided to go for a joint survey to 'confirm' the news, rather than the straightforward demolitions that other citizens received.
“Necessary action will be taken after conducting a joint survey and getting the confirmation that these buildings were constructed on the stormwater drain,” the officer said on Tuesday.
The delay seems to be over differences between officers of the BBMP (watershed department), Revenue Department and Survey officers about whether or not Darshan’s house was built in a stormwater drain.
As there is no consensus among the officials on the issue, there is a delay in taking action, say officials.
