Elon Musk, the creator of SpaceX, announced on Saturday that the first orbital stack of the Starship rocket would be ready for flight in the coming weeks, bringing the unconventional billionaire one step closer to his ambition of orbital and eventually interplanetary travel. In May, SpaceX successfully landed its Starship prototype, SN15, a reusable heavy-lift launch vehicle capable of carrying people and huge cargo cargoes to the moon and Mars.

The touchdown came after numerous failures of prototype landing attempts, which resulted in explosions. Taking to the micro-blogging site, Musk said, "First orbital stack of Starship should be ready for flight in a few weeks, pending only regulatory approval."

When combined with its super-heavy first-stage booster, SpaceX's next-generation launch vehicle, the Starship rocket, is 394 feet (120 metres) tall. It is central to Tesla Inc CEO Elon Musk's goal to make human space travel cheaper and more commonplace.

An orbital Starship trip is scheduled for the end of the year, and Musk has stated that in 2023, he plans to fly Japanese billionaire entrepreneur Yusaku Maezawa around the moon in the Starship.
