The shortest month on record for the planet since the 1960s occurred in 2020. The shortest day ever was recorded on July 19 of that year. It was shorter than a usual 24-hour day by 1.47 milliseconds.

On Saturday, several individuals posted footage of meteor showers on social media. The videos depict breathtaking displays of red, blue, and yellow lighting up the night sky as passersby pull out their cameras to record the event. The pyrotechnics, however, were really burning pieces of a Chinese rocket that had reentered the atmosphere over the Indian Ocean.

The decision emerged following a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Director General of Roscosmos Yuri Borisov on Tuesday.

The world is getting its first glimpse of the full capabilities of NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, a collaboration with ESA and CSA. The first full-color images and spectroscopic data from the telescope were released during a televised broadcast from NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt.

This image of galaxy cluster SMACS 0723 -- Webb's first deep field -- is a composite made from images at different wavelengths and reveals thousands of galaxies, including the faintest objects ever observed in the infrared.

NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) will release a collection of so-called "first light" photographs that demonstrate the space telescope's actual capability in a sequence of carefully scheduled events.

The two large masses on each end of the rocket may have caused the craters, according to NASA, but the impact marks are extremely unusual.
