On Thursday, taking a dig at the United States, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said that Washington sees them as 'useful' only for clearing the 'mess' they left behind in Afghanistan after 20 years of fighting. He also said that the US prefers Indian when it comes to forming a strategic partnership.

Addressing the media, Khan said that Pakistan is considered only helpful to find a military solution when there is not one. He further said that when the US decides to partner with India, Washington treats Pakistan differently. As per reports, Pakistan seems unhappy that Joe Biden has not spoken to Imran Khan since he has assumed office as the US president. The reports further stated that Pakistan's National Security Advisor, Moeed Yusuf expressed disappointment over the US' reluctance to contact Pakistan prime minister. However, the US State Department assures Islamabad that they recognise Pakistan's vital role in restoring peace in Afghanistan.

Previously, Imran Khan had said that the terror group would not talk to the Afghanistan government until Asharaf Ghani remained president. The statement comes after people from Afghanistan began a social media campaign against Pakistan and blamed them for its deteriorating situation. In a recent development, the Taliban have taken the strategic Afghan city of Ghazni, which is just 150 kilometres from Kabul. Ghazni is the tenth provincial capital to fall to the insurgents in a week. It lies along the major Kabul-Kandahar highway.
