Two, including Keralite, killed in Al Manama Supermarket fire in Sharjah
- The fire broke out in a 16-storey building on Al Arouba Street around 11.30 pm on Friday
- Sharjah Civil Defence brought the fire under control by 5 am
At least two persons were killed and several persons injured in a major fire that broke out in a 16-sotrey building in Sharjah. Most of the residents of the building are said to be Keralites.
The deceased are identified as Deepan Balakrishnan, 26, a native of Chungathara in Nilambur and Iman, 32, a native of Bangladesh.
The incident took place around 11.30 pm on Friday. Al Manama Supermarket, which was functioning in the ground and first floor of the building on Al Arouba Street was completely gutted in the fire.
The police are investigating the case, and reason for the fire is not known yet.
Most of the residents were out as it was a holiday and this reduced the number of casualties. Sharjah Civil Defence brought the fire under control by 5 am.
"Fire broke out in Al Manama Supermarket around 11.32 pm," said Sharjah Civil Defence director general Sami Khamis Al Naqabi.
