Cocaine worth Rs 5 lakh seized by Bengaluru Police; Nigerian national arrested
Close on the heels of the arrest of a Nigerian national for trying to sell banned drug cocaine worth one lakh a few days ago, the Central Crime Branch finally managed to capture the accused in possession of 75 grams of cocaine worth Rs 5 lakh.
Bengaluru: A Nigerian national was arrested by a team of police personnel and the narcotics wing of the Central Crime Branch (CCB), Bengaluru for possessing and peddling cocaine. According to CCB officials, 32-year-old Christian Nwabunwanne Offor Okoye was arrested on Thursday morning.
At the time of the arrest, the accused had 75 grams of cocaine in his possession worth Rs 5 lakh.
"The accused had come to India on a work visa. Although his visa expired long ago, he overstayed and makes trips to Mumbai and Goa from where he sourced the substance through his network," said Mohan Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, CCB.
The police sources say that Okoye's targeted students studying in colleges located in Bengaluru East. The operation was headed by Joint Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar who directed the officers to keep an eye of foreign nationals, particularly near colleges, as students are potential targets of drug peddlers.
