BJP high command appoints 3 deputy chief ministers for Karnataka

Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa released the list of cabinet members and much to everyone’s surprise, there are three deputy chief ministers for the state. But controversy broke out after it came to light that Laxman Savadi, one of three Dy CMs is not even an elected MLA or MLC.

Bengaluru: The BJP high command has appointed Govind Makthappa Karajol, CN Ashwath Narayan and Laxman Sangappa Savadi as the deputy chief ministers of Karnaaka on Monday (August 27). 

What caught everyone’s attention is that Laxman Savadi is not an elected MLA or MLC but has been elevated to the post of a deputy chief minister. Savadi has been handed over the transport department.

Govind Makthappa Karajol, another one of the three deputy chief ministers, has been given the additional charge of the social welfare department and also the public works department. 

Ashwath Narayan has been allocated the department of higher education, IT and BT, and science and technology departments. The government has also allocated portfolios to the 14 newly appointed ministers.

The ministers who have been allocated the portfolios include KS Eshwarappa, R Ashoka, Jagadish Shettar, B Sreeramulu, S Suresh Kumar, V Somanna, CT Ravi, Basavaraj Bommai, Kota Shrinivas Poojari, JC Madhu Swamy, Chandrakantagouda Channappagouda Patil, H Nagesh, Prabhu Chauhan and Jole Shashikala Annasaheb.

On August 20, Yediyurappa expanded his Cabinet by inducting 17 legislators, nearly a month after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) formed the government in the state.

Those who joined his Cabinet included Govind M Karjol, Dr CN Ashwath Narayan, Lakshman Sangappa Savadi, KS Eshwarappa, R Ashok, Jagadish Shettar, B Sriramulu, S Suresh Kumar, V Somanna, CT Ravi, Basavaraj Bommai, Kota Shrinivas Poojari, JC Madhu Swamy, Chandrakantagouda Channappagouda Patil, H Nagesh (Independent MLA), Prabhu Chauhan and Jolle Shashikala Anna Saheb.

The 76-year-old BJP leader took oath as the chief minister on July 26 following the collapse of the 14-month-old Congress-JD(S) coalition government.
