Bengaluru: Mahesh Kumar (33), a traffic police constable with the Airport Traffic Police Station, was reportedly attacked by a biker at Chikkasanna Gate in Devanahalii on Saturday afternoon. The biker also allegedly broken the cop’s phone after smashing it against the road. The accused has been identified as Muniraju, from Hunsur, who is an employee at a private firm.

Muniraju was stopped by Mahesh Kumar for violating a one-way rule at Chikkasanna Gate. However, when Mahesh Kumar tried to flag him down and stop him, Muniraju ignored him and continued on his way. Mahesh Kumar then brought out his mobile phone to record the biker’s actions. When Muniraju saw this, he took a U-turn, return and allegedly began assaulting Mahesh. He also grabbed the phone from the policeman and smashed it against the ground. Mahesh Kumar contained Muniraju with the help of a few passers-by and then called for help.

Mahesh’s co-workers arrived at the spot and Muniraju was taken to the police station to be questioned.
Muniraju was presented before court and is now in judicial custody. Police have slapped cases on him for assaulting a government servant on duty and for criminal intimidation.

In a similar incident in July 2018, a biker allegedly assaulted a traffic police constable who stopped him for speeding in Thubarahalli junction in Whitefield. The accused also went so far as to call an associate to threaten the cop. When the motorist, Karthik, was stopped by the cop, he came up to him and challenged him to book a case against him. Karthik lost his temper when the argument escalated and reportedly grabbed the cop’s collar and started manhandling him. He then fled from the scene. Whitefield Police registered a complaint against the biker.
