Plastic rice a hoax says Dubai Municipality

The plastic rice rumours had caused quite a stir not only in India but also in the UAE. The Dubai municipality decided to quash the rumours by releasing a statement on Twitter and Facebook, where the rumours were spreading quickly.
Iman Al Bastaki, Director of Food Safety Department at Dubai Municipality, said that the reports of plastic rice lacks credibility and it is insignificant. She said the rumours indicate a clear malicious intent to discredit the level of food safety.
Al Bastaki said to Gulf News that, “There is no such thing in the market known as plastic rice because it is like a fantasy. It is easy to detect through sensing it or cooking it, or by adding any substances, such as fat or oil, which will only turn into a plastic mass by heat.”
