Plastic rice a hoax says Dubai Municipality

The plastic rice rumours had caused quite a stir not only in India but also in the UAE. The Dubai municipality decided to quash the rumours by releasing a statement on Twitter and Facebook, where the rumours were spreading quickly.

Iman Al Bastaki, Director of Food Safety Department at Dubai Municipality, said that the reports of plastic rice lacks credibility and it is insignificant. She said the rumours indicate a clear malicious intent to discredit the level of food safety.

In response to the Plastic Rice Rumor, Dubai Municipality affirms the lack of credibility of the rumor and the fact that it is not a rumor, but it is a manipulation of the consumer, which is issued from time to time for the purpose of questioning the safety of food where all types of rice in the market are normal as well as the existence of different types of high quality or low are within the approved standards. There is no such thing in the market known as the plastic rice because it is like a fantasy and easy to detect through sensing it or cooking it or by adding any substances, such as fat or oil that will simply turn into a plastic mass by heat. Al Bastaki said to Gulf News that, “There is no such thing in the market known as plastic rice because it is like a fantasy. It is easy to detect through sensing it or cooking it, or by adding any substances, such as fat or oil, which will only turn into a plastic mass by heat.”

There were rumours that China was producing plastic rice and it was being exported to other countries and is being consumed by the people.

The false reports also claimed that the rice” was made by mixing potatoes, sweet potatoes and plastic.
