Kuwait mulls to cancel more than 10,000 work permits of expats after Eid al-Fitr holidays
The first cancellations will happen after the Eid al-Fitr holiday.
FollowKuwait City: Kuwait's Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) is mulling to cancel of more than 10,000 work permits that are registered with the authority and are not valid, sources said.

After consulting with the interior minister to confirm the accuracy of the information, the authorities started the legal processes for cancellation. The first cancellations will happen after the Eid al-Fitr holiday.
According to Article 35 of the procedures for work permits, the employer may automatically revoke a worker's work permit if they have been away from their country of residence for more than six months, barring any exemptions granted by the General Department of Residency.
If a worker's permit expires while they are abroad or if they are deported for any reason, it may be cancelled. Beginning next month, the authority will investigate revoking work permits for other causes. Providing false information and documents, as well as using unrecognised educational credentials, are some of the reasons.
“Decisions to cancel these permits will be issued successively, and from time to time, according to reviews and audits, as well as according to the results of tests received from accredited professional societies such as the Society of Engineers and the Kuwaiti Accountants Society,” the sources said.
“The manpower authority will not issue any work permits to anyone who is found to have previously obtained it in a manner that violates the law, through the inaccuracy of their academic certificate or their failure to pass the professional tests,” the sources explained.
Several departments will be tasked with addressing the demographic imbalance and lowering the number of expatriate workers the market does not require, according to sources.
The Ministry of the Interior is anticipated to evaluate the requirements for giving mobile taxi licences, which have grown to be a significant market for attracting foreign employees, as well as the requirements for granting foreigners a driving licence.
