In a move by Abu Dhabi's government that has brought smiles on customers' faces and relief to mall owners, the government has given permission for the installation of  EDE Covid-19 scanners at shopping malls and all public places, says Abu Dhabi Media office report.

Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee installed these scanners at public places like malls, airports and other places for public benefit.

With the installation, a person can be detected if he or she is Covid positive in just 5 seconds via 'facial scan' and helps in containing the spread.

The report says that the scanner comprises a camera and a phone application developed by a research lab in Abu Dhabi and can detect possible infections by measuring electromagnetic waves that change when the RNA particles of the virus are present in the person’s body.

As per reports, trials were conducted at Ghantoot, Yas Island and Mussafah and 20,000 people were covered under the study and 90% of them showed sensitivity.

If the scanner detects sensitivity, the person will be barred from entry and he or she must undergo a PCR test within 24 hours.
