In what looked like a scene straight out of a rags-to-riches film, a youth, who was working as a waiter at a restaurant in Thiruvananthapuram, arrived there a month later in a convoy of luxury cars and distributed expensive gifts to his former co-workers.
The boy in question is Dhruv Dholakia, 18, the youngest member of the Dholakia family (SRK Group), based in Surat, who are one of the leading diamond merchants in the world.
The billionaire scion worked at the Streat cafe in MG Road, Thiruvananthapuram after the family sent him to Kerala to survive doing odd jobs, in an effort to wean Dhruv from a life of silver-spooned privilege.
From the first day itself he caught the attention of the management as well as the rest of the staff because of his commitment
Streat, in a Facebook post, revealed that they had Dhruv was appointed as a service boy a month ago after he approached them seeking a job. Both the hotel management and the customers were impressed by his commitment and deep knowledge of variety of topics.
On the seventh day into the job, Dhruv informed the management that his grandmother is unwell and left to Surat. However, he promised to return for the busy business period during Onam.
We tried to contact Dhruv, but there was no response. We thought he won't come back
And on Thursday, Dhruv made a cinematic entry at Streat and revealed his true identity. Dhruv also gifted valuable gifts including diamonds, watches, cufflinks and pens worth several lakhs to his former bosses and colleagues.
SRK Group, helmed by Savji Dholakia, is a Rs 6,000 crore diamond manufacturing and exporting company with presence in 71 countries. Savji's only son Dravya Dholakia had also made headlines in July last year, when he came to Kochi and did several odd jobs for a month.
