The Hindu Aikya Vedi has called for a dawn-to-dusk hartal in Thrissur district on Wednesday to protest the take over of Sree Parthasarathi Temple by Malabar Devaswom Board. The Devaswom Board took over the temple following an order by Kerala High Court.
It was not an easy move for Devaswom authorities as a section of devotees, and Hindu organisations were against the move. The authorities had to back out from an attempt to take over, in September, following a stiff resistance from devotees, including women and children. Some protestors and two policemen were injured in the incident.
Devaswom officials sought police protection, but there was no resistance from devotees this time.
It was following allegations of corruption by office bearers of temple managing committee that some persons demanded a takeover. However, Hindu groups allege that the ruling Left Front and Malabar Devaswom Board was cooking up fake charges to take over the temple.
