Case against Jean Paul Lal criminal offence, cannot be settled: Police

FollowThe police on Wednesday stated that the case against director Jean Paul Lal, originally filed over a complaint by an actress, cannot be settled.
“Only cases such as financial disputes can be settled outside court. Criminal cases cannot be settled and they have to go through the legal proceedings,” the prosecution submitted, pointing out that the charges pressed against the director and three others were of a serious nature.

The actress had worked with Jean Paul in Honey Bee 2, which released earlier this year. She had filed a police complaint last month, saying the director used a body double for her character without her permission and also made lewd remarks at her in a hotel room when she asked for remuneration.
The actress took a U-turn last week and informed the court that she has no complaints against the accused. In an affidavit submitted before the court, she stated that she has no complaints and decided not to pursue the case any further. It is understood that both parties reached a compromise outside the court.

Apart from Jean Paul, actor Sreenath Bhasi and technicians Anoop Venugopal and Anirudh have been named as the other accused in the case.
