The erstwhile royal family of Travancore, once the custodian of Padmanabhaswamy temple has opposed the move to open the Vault B at the temple.

"We won't give consent to open the Vault as it is against the wish of deity. Even the chief priests of Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple are against the government move," Aswathi Thirunal Gouri Lakshmi Bayi, the senior member of the family said.

The Comptroller and Auditor General Vinod Rai had said that the Vault was opened seven times earlier, but the royal family does not agree with his findings.

"There is a small chamber in front of Vault B. This anti-chamber was opened earlier, and it is being mistaken for Vault B," the royal family said.

"We won't be responsible for the outcomes once the Vault B is opened," Aswathi Thirunal Gouri Lakshmi Bayi said.

The Supreme Court had directed the state government to open Vault B inside the temple while considering a petition filed after eight diamonds adorning the forehead of temple idol had been reported missing.

The bench chaired by Chief Justice found that the opening of Vault B will not hurt the sentiments of anyone. "Current situation is likely to generate suspicions. Amicus Curiae should meet the members of royal family and try to change their opinion," the court said.

Amicus Curiae Gopal Subramaniam had alleged that the police is not investigating the case of missing diamond properly and sought a probe monitored by the court. However, the court dismissed his demand and said the police investigation could be continued.
