Palakkad witnessed a unique method of protest on World Water Day as animals lined up with placards asking for drinking water at the district collectorate.

The local farmers brought their cattle and other farm animals along with them in their show of protest to the state government for "being easy on" Tamil Nadu.

Violating the Parambikulam Aliyar Project agreement, Tamil Nadu has stopped releasing water from the Aliyar dam, causing water crisis in several parts of Palakkad.

The district, which has three major rivers, a dozen dams and the Silent Valley rainforest, is facing one of the worst droughts in their history.

The association said that the protests will intensify if the state government does not hold talks with Tamil Nadu soon.
