Outrage child tied up procession vehicle 3 hours shobha yatra Kannur

An incident where a three-year-old boy, dressed as Lord Krishna, was tied to an artificial peepal leaf for hours during a procession in Kannur has sparked outrage across the country.

The child was tied up for around three hours under hot sun during the 'shobha yatra' procession as part of Janmashtami celebrations in Payyannur on Tuesday afternoon.

The child's ordeal came to light after activist and Kasaragod native Sreekanth Usha Prabhakaran took a photo of incident and posted it on Facebook with a detailed description of events.

"Initially I thought that it was a child's statue but then I saw him squinting his eyes and moving his head to avoid the hit sun. It appeared the tired child was tied up around the waist and hung down from leaf," read his Facebook post.

Sreekanth said though there were several policemen including the Payyannur SI at the spot, nobody stopped it. Even more bizarre was the response of the Childline.

"When I called up Childline, they asked me if the child has any complaint. Then they asked if the parents have any. They said the procession is being carried out after getting prior permission," the Facebook post added.

In another post, Sreekanth said that he has been receiving several calls from Internet numbers ever since he posted the photo, threatening him of dire consequences.
